Hello! The sound in my Inspiron 1525 was perfect, until I had to restore it to factory settings because of spyware/malware. If anyone has ever had to do this, you're feeling my pain. Like Oscar (2009), above, mine was downgraded to XP and Dell was trying to load the Vista driver. If you go to dell.com, through your Dell Support Center icon, it knows your computer tag #. Click on Drivers and Downloads. Under Audio, you'll see Sigmatel and just under that, you'll see STAC 92XX C Major HD Audio... this is what you want to download. The rest of this is from memory: my download saved to "My Documents" as a #R(something). Once the install is complete, you need to find the R# where you saved it and click on it to unzip it. It opens up an Intel box and you'll see the "High Definition" Audio. Just go through the wizard. The computer will need to restart. Crossing my fingers, but the first song I played on Youtube sounded AWESOME. Thank you Niranjan! I hope you work for Dell! Pass the word! Thank you SO much!

Thank you so much I have had my Dell Studio 15 Series since last summer. I love the laptop but so upset about the sound. I am ever so grateful for you posting this information. It worked instantanously. Thank you.

I have this same problem on the wife's vista dell laptop. Tried your fix and it worked. Only one in a list of many that did!
