Scary Windows: “Failed to connect to a windows service “

For all the people who are lost in this world after seeing this error  , I don’t want you to get a shock to have the system which was working perfectly  just hours ago and now not responding properly at all!.

Here are the symptoms which might show up on your system[  which  were shown by my laptop to me ],

  1. First of all, it cut me off from the internet and even the LAN
  2. It wouldn’t let me turn on my WLAN card [ Dell 1510 Half Mini card ].Though windows was able to recognize the card ,the Dell utility wasn’t able to get through to the card
  3. The system will take hell lot of time to boot up & login . [ mine usually takes just 1 second to shift from the Login menu to completely loaded windows desktop, and in this situation it took 2 minutes [ more than 5 once ].
  4. The DHCP service wasn’t starting normally and i thought this was the cause of all the mess i had to deal with.
  5. The Windows will give a message “Windows failed to connect to a window service. Windows could not connect to the system event Notification Service service. This problem prevents limited users from logging on to the system. As an administrative user, you can review the system event log for details about why the service didn’t respond.”

The solution to this problem is :

If you are using Windows Vista [I had this error on Vista so i don’t know if WinXp ever had this problem, not sure] ,

  • Open the Command Prompt with administrative privileges.
    • Two easy ways are there for this ,
      • Open up Task manager , and click “New Task“ in the Applications Tab and then type “cmd” then hit ENTER.
      • Another way is to go to the start menu and Browse through the “Accessories” to find ‘Command Prompt’ and then right click it and select ‘Run as Administrator’.
  • Then type “NETSH WINSOCK RESET CATALOG” in the dos prompt , without the quotes [Obviously!!!]
  • Let it finish doing the work and then when it asks you to ,Restart your ‘PC’.

The only side effect is that some of the Winsock settings might be lost in this process but then it’s like  ‘No Sacrifice .No Victory’. Ain’t it?
:)

PS: I don’t what was the reason for this error to show up.I had the laptop in perfect condition and then i shut it down for having lunch and when i returned it was F***** UP!.  God BLESS M$ Windows.!

OS X & Linux are way better than this but then we need to have Wndows to keep up with others rite?. :( .!

Have you tried Ubuntu? I wiped out Vista on my Dell Studio 15 a week after it arrived and installed Ubuntu. Bliss, ever since.
